Fishing in Alaska is generally an enjoyable experience for many people. There are many different varieties of fish that you could get to catch in Alaska. Aside from that, there are also many places that you could get to explore. One of the best ways to enjoy your trip is to go Alaska Coho fishing.

One of the best fishes that you could get to catch in Alaska is salmon. There are many different kinds of salmon in the bountiful waters of Alaska. Many sports fishermen prefer catching king salmon, which gives a really good weight. Most fishermen get to catch king salmon ranging from 20 to 70 pounds. On better days, they may even get to see salmon weighing up to 150 pounds. Aside from that, the king salmon also provide a great challenge when people would try to reel them in.

Aside from that, there are also other different types of salmon that most fishermen could catch. There are sockeye, chum, and pink salmon varieties. If you want more action you can choose to go Alaska Coho fishing. Coho or silver salmon are quite smaller than the other types of salmon, with a normal weight of about 14 pounds. Although they are smaller, they can be really hard to catch. When you get a Coho on your line, you would really need to keep an eye on it so that you would not lose your prize catch.

The best time to go fishing for Coho salmon is during the summertime. You could get to bring your friends and family along, so you would have a more enjoyable time. You could do your fishing inland on the rivers in Alaska, or you could go out on the open seas by renting a boat from a reputable fishing charter.

Before you engage on your plan to go Alaska Coho fishing, there are some things that you need to plan out first. One of the first things that you should really consider is to find a fishing lodge that you will stay in. You won’t be able to go home right away on your fishing trips, so it is a good idea to have a comfortable place to stay when you are in Alaska.

Aside from that, it is also a good idea to choose a good fishing charter. They provide you with everything that you need whenever you go fishing, so you could never go wrong with the right fishing charter in Alaska. With them, you could get the best deals on equipment, as well as a competent fishing guide.

The best way to do Alaska Coho fishing is to go out on the open waters. You would have better chances to catch some Coho because you could change your location freely when you are on a boat. To increase your chances of catching the best fish, you should always have the appropriate equipment handy. Make sure you have the right hooks, lines and baits. Your attire is also essential if you want to really get the silver salmon that you have been dreaming about.

Largemouth bass, sometimes called black bass are favorite fish for millions of North American anglers. These stout bodied members of the sunfish family are found in lakes, ponds, rivers and creeks throughout the continent. They eat almost anything that will fit in their huge mouths.

Although usually easy to locate and catch, at times these intelligent fish can be a challenge for anglers. Having an arsenal of techniques will increase the odds of success. To increase the odds of success, anglers can experiment with these bass fishing tactics:

- Fish the early part of the day. In some locations the bite can be incredible during the first hour of daylight.

- Cast as close as possible to structure such as downed trees, overhanging limbs, bulkheads or lily pads.

- Target areas of water flow such as culverts, channels, stream-pond junctions, tidal rips, etc.

- Watch for seasonal food sources and adjust fishing techniques to match bass behavior.

- During periods of bright sun and clear water, use ultralight outfits or employ fly fishing gear to present small natural baits to wary fish.

- Try bass fishing from a kayak. Kayaks allow bass fishermen to fish areas that are impossible to reach using conventional boats.

- When fishing in heavy cover, try using weedless lures or other simple lures that are less likely to get snagged.

- Wear polarized sunglasses to help see fish, the bottom or structure.

- Carry essential fishing gear including line cutters, pliers, bait knife, camera, etc.

- Keep a journal, noting time of day, weather conditions, barometric pressure, moon phase, water levels, etc.

If you believe that knowledge is power, then you can probably also believe that knowing some pertinent trout fishing tips and tricks can lead to catching more fish. It only makes sense that doing anything in the most efficient manner will produce the best results, and fishing is no exception. A little fishing knowledge is bring-home-the-fish power!

If you don’t have an experienced fisherman to guide you in your fishing excursions, grab hold of the following tips and commit them to memory. You WILL catch more trout by using these techniques and suggestions. If you are going fishing anyways, why not catch more fish and have the most fun you can?

Practice casting before you get to the water. That way, you can drop your lure right where you want it the first time and reduce the chances of spooking the fish.

Use a lightweight rod and reel. Trout as a rule are not big fish (unless you are fishing in Alaska maybe). You will feel the hits better with lighter equipment and also sense what the fish is doing as you play him.

Fish have a great sense of smell. Leave the cologne and after shave at home. They won’t appreciate it. Avoid smoking if possible as the smell will transfer to line and lure.

They see well also, so dress to blend in with the back ground. The less they see of you, the better chance to hook some.

When approaching the water, try acting more like a hunter and sneak up to it. Fish get spooked seeing fishermen walking around.

Approach a river fishing spot from downstream. There is a good chance the trout are facing upstream to watch for insects and other food floating downstream.

Fish also have an acute sense of hearing through vibrations in the water. Any walking around or dropping things in the water will send the warning signal to the fish to beware of humans with hooks.

Keep the talking to a minimum and leave the radio at home to avoid disturbing the fish.

Trout congregate at certain areas of a stream. Learn where these are and fish them for all they are worth. “Read the water” when you first arrive to decide where to cast that bait or lure.

Trout like cool, well-oxygenated water, so one spot to find them is in a pool below a waterfall or rapids. This is where you will find the larger fish. Fish are territorial, so the smaller fish will be chased out of the prime locations.

Trout will be nearer the surface when the water is cooler and deeper when the weather and the water are warmer.

Trout, like most fish, love cover, so get that fly or lure under overhanging banks and near rocks and floating logs. Drag it across their noses and entice them to come out and take a bite.

To conserve energy, trout won’t fight the current, but will hang out just outside of the current in a stream and watch for food floating down. Make your fly float past them and they will be tempted to strike.

Vegetation makes a nice hideaway for trout and provides the oxygen they crave. Carefully fish areas where plants are providing cover to coax a trout out of hiding.

Trout feed most at dawn and dusk, so 45 minutes before and after these times will be the ideal window of opportunity.

Try to use bait that is obtained locally and that the fish would normally eat as prey. A local delicacy that a trout is familiar with will be more apt to be eaten when it is on the end of your fishing line.

The same applies to lures and flies. Try to use those that look like some local creature that the trout already preys upon.

Practice catch and release if possible to insure that there will be trout left for the future.

When unhooking a trout, wet your hands before handling him and handle as little and as gently as possible. The slime coating on the fish’s skin can be easily damaged and cause injury to the fish.

Hold a tired trout upright in the water while releasing until it swims away under its own power.

Try to minimize the gear you carry. Use a fishing vest instead of a tackle box if possible. It is easier to move around if you are traveling light.

Dressing in layers allows you to remove clothing if too hot and add layers if you are cold.

A hat, sunscreen and bug spray will be welcomed if you need them and longed for if you don’t have them.

A little fishing etiquette is always in order, especially when around other fishermen. Try to follow the “Do unto others…” rule and respect the rights of other anglers.

Don’t go splashing around where others are fishing and spook the fish on them.

Keep the noise down.

Don’t intrude on a fishing spot that is already occupied by another fisherman.

And the best trout fishing tips and tricks of all – catch lots of fish and HAVE FUN!

Trout fishing nets are part of the gear most fishermen use when fishing smaller to medium-sized trout. For trout which are larger in size, using one’s hands is the most effective. Yet for ninety percent of fishermen, the normal sized net works just fine. Nets take the work out of retrieving an aggressive trout from the water. They also help release a trout during a “catch and release” outings.

Trout Nets And Their Differences

Shopping for a net will lead you to two basic types. Two trout fishing nets, the tear drop and classic are what is often found in all sport fishing shops. These two types of nets are for river, lake and ocean trout fishing. The lager the trout the larger the net, yet there does come a time where trout can become too big for a net. Monster trout are a whole different subject that is not covered within this article.

The tear drop net is the net everyone will see when they go into a sporting goods store. Almost all manufactured with a metal or wood and come in a multitude of net colors. When purchasing a net like this, stick with a more neutral color. Net color that blends in with the color of the ground or water is the best choice. Some colors can spook a trout. When fishing trout that spook easily, brown colored nets work the best. They blend into the environment allowing the fisherman to keep a low profile.

There is another type of net that is a little harder to find because its made for larger fish. This net comes with a longer handle and is a bit more robust in size and shape. Its meant for bringing in larger trout for ocean, lake and river fishing. These nets are also a great aid when fishing off a high shoreline. The long handle and extra leverage comes in handy.

Up Keep Of A Fishing Net

With any fishing gear, it is important to clean and repair it. The same goes for nets. Although nets are quite sturdy and made of resistant materials, there will come a time when it will need repairing. Some of the damage to watch out for, torn nets, bent metal hoops, cracks, chips, scratches and worn handle grips.

Most fishermen grow attached to their gear. When something breaks or needs repairing. Generally a good fisherman will get right to it. Being vigilant about your net will keep it functioning for a fisherman’s entire life. Yet when a net gets damaged, it is susceptible to rust or water damage. This kind of damage can weaken the net’s integrity. The last thing you want to happen is lose a prize trout with a net failure or handle failure.

Fishing nets are easy to take care of and can last a lifetime. Some of the wooden nets are beautifully done and can pass from generation to generation. Even more reason to care for a net.

We all know that the striped bass will not give up without a fight. This type of fish can be found in salt waters, but also in a few freshwater locations. They can be caught by using a wide variety of fishing techniques, starting from live bait fish to trolling with rubber surgical tube lures up to 30 inches long. With this article we will try to point out a few tips that should be taken into consideration by amateur fishermen and not only.

First, you need to purchase from your local fishing shop some swimmer lures as you will be using them a lot. Now, once you are at your favorite fishing spot you need to cast the swimmer lure. Jetties can be quite effective areas to fish using this specific type of lure because the bait fish congregate among the rocks of the jetty.

As far as the retrieving procedures are concerned, you need to do it slowly reeling the line back onto the reel. By doing this slow retrieve, you will make the lure skim across the surface which will create a small wake behind it. This wake will allow you to fish the lure at the surface of the water in order to find out if the fish are feeding in that level of water.

Now it is time to cast the swimmer lure once again and retrieve the lure, this time at a moderate rate of speed. By doing so, it should cause the lip of the lure to dig into the waters which will most likely cause the lure to wobble and hopefully dive. When you will perform just about the right rate of retrieve, the tip of your fishing pole will pulsate in time with the wobbling of the lure. This type of retrieve will allow you to fish the middle depths of the waters in your favorite fishing area.

Moving on, you need to cast out a swimmer lure that has a longer lip if you want to catch some of the striped bass that can be found in the deeper waters. The longer the lip of the swimmer lure is, the bigger the dive for the lure.

It is highly recommended to use the foregoing retrieves in order to locate the level at which the fish are feeding. Once you have success with a particular retrieve, continue using the same retrieve to pinpoint the level at which the striped bass are feeding on that day and at that time.

Here is a very important tip: try “teasing” the striped bass by using a smaller lure in front of your swimmer lure. The larger swimmer lure will allow you to cast the “teaser” lure farther than it could be cast alone. Remember to check out feeding areas for the bass right next to you. Striped bass usually concentrate their eating efforts at the point where the waves break as this turbulence disorients bait fish and makes the bait fish easier to catch. If you are casting solely for distance, you may overlook the various fish that could be located in the white water closer in.

Fishing for halibut in Alaska is a really exciting experience for many people. There is nowhere else in the world where you could get to catch fish that would weigh as much as 400 pounds. This is a really great trophy that you could get to take home. Although there are many other fishing spots in the world that you could go, there is no other place like Alaska.

One of the best things about Alaska is that aside from offering very wonderful fishing grounds, there are also many different marvelous sights that you could get to see in the area. After your fishing trip, you could get to explore that many different views that the place has got to offer.

When you go fishing for Halibut in Alaska, it is really best if you go there prepared. Having the right kind of equipment is essential if you want to get to catch the right kind of fish. It is a really good thing if you get to bring all of the equipment that you need with you when you go fishing in Alaska. If you forgot some pieces of equipment though, there are many different fishing charters in the area.

One thing that you really need if you want to catch the bigger halibut is a boat. Most of the big fish don’t stay close to the shore. If you own a boat, you could take it to the fishing grounds. However, if you don’t have access to a boat, you could always rent one from a reputable fishing charter. There are many fishing charters in Alaska, and you could hire a captain from the fishing charters to help you with your fishing trips.

You would also need to have the right kind of equipment when you go fishing for halibut in Alaska. One of the most important things that you need to have is the lures, baits, and flies. Having the right kind of lure can make or break your catch. Make sure that the lures that you choose would be really effective on the kind of fish that you are going to catch. Make sure that the lures resemble the foot that the halibut usually look for in the area.

Choosing the right kind of reels, rods, and lines also help in letting you get the perfect catch of halibut. The reels should not give excessive line feed whenever a fish decides to fight back. The rods that you bring when you go fishing for halibut should also be strong enough for the task. The lines should also be less visible yet strong enough to catch the fish that you really want.

If you have the right kind of equipment handy, you could surely get to bring in the perfect halibut. Alaska has rich waters that are teeming with many different kinds of fishes. If you want to have a chance to reel in a very big fish, you should really go fishing for halibut in Alaska.

A pair of marine binoculars is essential for general safety on board a boat and a great piece of equipment to have handy when you are looking for those little telltale signs that a lucrative fishing spot is up ahead – like a flock of gulls diving in for an easy dinner. There are some essential characteristics to look out for when you are shopping for a pair of binoculars for your marine adventures.

Field of View

An essential characteristic of any set of binoculars is the field of view. This is either indicated in degrees or more commonly in a number such as 300 x 1000 ft. The field of view tells you the distance from left to right that you will be able to see when the binoculars are up to your eyes. For marine binoculars it is especially important to get as wide a field of view as you can afford because looking out to sea there are few landmarks to help you zoom in on a given area. The larger the number per 1000 ft, or the bigger the angle, the less time you will spend panning the binoculars from side to side trying to locate the object you are looking for. It is also handy to have a wide field of view if you are tracking moving objects such as a bird flying in the distance or a speedboat racing in front of you. A general rule of thumb is that a lower magnification will give you a wider field of view, so keep that in mind when shopping.

Power (Magnification)

The power or magnification factor is the degree to which the binoculars magnify what you are looking at. There is tradeoff between power, clarity and field of view. When comparing marine binoculars, keep in mind that with extra power you lose both clarity and field of view and with lower power, you see a brighter image and have a wider field of view. Many experts agree that a magnification of about 7 or 8 times is a good power objective.

Eye Relief

When you focus the binoculars you can adjust each lens separately, so if you wear a simple glasses prescription it can be easier to take your glasses off. However, many people who wear glasses prefer to keep them on while looking through binoculars. A longer eye relief will be helpful for those you want to use their marine binoculars while wearing prescription lenses. 15mm is a fairly standard eye relief distance. 22mm gives you a little extra play to hold the binoculars forward from your eyes and still experience a reasonable field of view.

Waterproofing

Marine enthusiasts agree that one of the primary features all marine electronics must have is a good waterproofing system. Marine binoculars are no exception. Look for ruggedized casing that can withstand being dropped in the water and also look for lenses that have protective coatings that prevent water from clinging to the lenses. There are several types of lens coating provided by manufacturers of marine binoculars, some are anti-glare or anti-reflection, so look specifically for coatings that repel water and moisture.

Once you understand the basic characteristics of a good pair of marine binoculars you can find good deals online at marine electronics outlets. Study the specifications to compare the differences between models, manufacturers and price ranges.

No one who purchases an inflatable life raft really believes that they will actually have occasion to use the inflatable life raft for its intended purpose and it is true that the majority of inflatable life rafts live out the entirety of their lives in storage, never actually being used as a tool for surviving a disaster. This does not mean that no one ever has occasion to actually use a life raft, however. Many thousands of fishermen, travelers, sailors and pilots are only alive today because they had the foresight to purchase an inflatable life raft before embarking on their voyage into the skies or out to sea.

In the case of small airplanes and boats, especially those that journey into latitudes where the temperature is low enough for hypothermia to be a serious threat to survival in the event of a disaster where someone ends up in the water, one-person inflatable life rafts are probably the most apt tools for surviving in such a situation. The smallest inflatable boats typically weight under 10 pounds and, before you inflate them, are about the same size as a standard flotation cushion. Despite their light weight and small size, that package inflates to become a full life raft, constructed from rubberized fabric, featuring automatic inflation, a sea anchor, a canopy to provide shelter from the weather, and water ballast to ensure stability when the seas are rough.

In the case of larger planes and boats that are built to accommodate more passengers, however, larger life rafts are necessary in order to provide for all of those passengers and crew members. There are larger versions of the one-man life raft that comes in sizes accommodating four or six people, and also include other survival necessities such as flares, boarding ladders, and storage space for rations.

The largest inflatable life rafts that are meant for use by private individuals are generally the eight-person inflatable life rafts. Life rafts that have a capacity over eight people are generally meant for use by commercial organizations such as ferry boats and commercial planes. Even for an inflatable, a life raft that has a carrying capacity of more than eight people would be too large and heavy for a regular yacht crew to handle properly. If you require a life raft with a carrying capacity of more than eight people, then the better solution would probably be for you to simply purchase two smaller life rafts. This would ensure that you have no trouble handling and setting up the life rafts in the event that you need to use them, although the overall cost of purchasing two smaller life rafts will be higher than the cost of purchasing a single large one.

One thing to keep in mind when deciding what sort of capacity you will require with your life raft is to think beyond mere numbers to physical space. The US Coast Guard, Offshore Racing Council, and US Sailing have unanimously agreed that the minimum amount of space required for each occupant of a life raft is 4 square feet per occupant. Thus, technically, a life raft meant to hold 4 people need only have a total of 16 square feet of space. Before purchasing a life raft based on this minimum standard, however, you should think very carefully about what it might mean to have four people crammed into a 16 square foot space on rough seas and possibly for a very long period of time. For this reason many sailors and boating enthusiasts will recommend that you purchase a life raft one size larger than your minimum requirement. You should also be wary of purchasing a life raft that is too large, however, as a life raft that is under-loaded is more prone to capsizing in rough seas than a properly loaded one.

The Standard Inflatable As A Life Raft

Many boat owners find that life rafts are a bothersome type of water craft to carry, even though they come neatly packed in plastic containers when you first purchase them. The boats that emerge from those plastic containers, however, are expensive, ugly and cumbersome. Many boat owners would much prefer to simply use a regular inflatable boat such as a soft tail or sport boat as a life raft.

If, however, you carry passengers in any form of commercial capacity whatsoever, then you can forget about using a regular inflatable boat in place of a proper life raft. This is because the Coast Guard has strict regulations about the suitability of life rafts for use with paying passengers, and they regularly inspect boats to check that they conform to those regulations. Another problem is that, in order for a regular inflatable boat to properly take the place of a life raft in an emergency situation, then the inflatable boat will have to be carried inflated. This is something that most planes and boats simply do not have enough space to do.

Catfishing Guide

There are lots of great benefits to work with a fishing guide. One of the best reason is simply to catch much more fish! Using a quality guide, you are going to certainly go home with extra cats. You can even learn plenty from a fishing guide. Regardless if you are simply starting out angling, or are a qualified catfisher having years under your belt, you will constantly discover something new. Afterall; fishing isn’t something you can learn about by studying textbooks or viewing videos. You can find much more with one day using a good fishing guide than you would using a whole library of fishing videos. Obtaining a guide is really a little costly, running from$ 100- $ 600 a day, but you can reduce expenses simply by splitting it with a few nice friends. Fishing guides is sometimes provided together with fishing vacation packages. Tips on how to Find the best Fishing Guide One of the best method to get the best guide is via recommendation. If a fishing friend of yours mentions that they have gone out using a guide, and was satisfied with the trip, that is the best option. An additional smart way to get a fishing guide would be to ask at the local bait shop. Bait and tackle shops do a lot more than just sell you gear. Think about it as the local fishing knowledge center. They will most likely be ready to suggest many good guides for you so you can take your pick. You can even check out the local yellow pages.

Nevertheless you choose to find your guide, ensure that these are licensed before you hire them. There are two reasons for this. For one thing, a unlicensed fishing guide might not understand his left from right. If he is licensed, that ensures that you have someone who knows something about something. One another reason is you have to ensure you are fishing based on local and state regulations.

If you are a more experienced angler, a good fishing guide can assist you in finding catfish in their local region. Every body of water across the country differs from the others, and a local fishing guide will likely be knowledgeable and experienced in their area. Simply consider it- a fishing guide spends the majority of each day out by the water fishing.
